Champions League 2022/23: Xavi Reacts to Barcelona’s Draw
FC Barcelona is licking its wounds after failing to defeat Inter Milan in the Champions League last Wednesday. We didn’t have to wait long for Xavi to make his first decisions.
Representatives of FCB announced the game with Inter Milan as the “final”. Blaugrana managed only to tie with Inter 3:3. Such a result limits their chances of advancing to the knockout stage of the Champions League to a minimum. After four rounds, Barca has only four points. The Italians have three points more at the moment. Barcelona sits third in its group – behind leaders Bayern Munich Inter. They are now only competing with Inter Milan for promotion to the next round.
The dissatisfying result provoked many reactions from Barcelona officials.
Xavi: Disappointment with the Performance of Barcelona
Coach Xavi was disappointed with the attitude of his team. He discussed it during the press conference:
“I’m angry and upset”, he said. This Champions League is being very cruel … It is being cruel from Munich through Milan and today too. We deserved more, but this is the Champions League … Football is a game of mistakes, and today we didn’t defend well. In the first part, the intensity was excellent. We had to continue, and we have paid dearly for our mistakes. Very serious mistakes that cost us the game.” (via Mundo Deportivo)
The game against Inter Milan confirmed the worst predictions. One was that Gerard Pique offers too little for the most demanding games. The veteran did not live up to expectations.
Coach Xavi Hernandez realizes that failure in the Champions League weakens his project. The main challenge for the 42-year-old is now to rebuild the team mentally and physically:
“There is the league, the Super Cup, the cup. We have to continue,” said the Catalan coach. “It is a tough blow. We are already thinking about Madrid, about the Clasico … We must recover, make a good recovery and try to beat Madrid at the Bernabeu. We parked the Champions League and focused on the league, where we are leaders.”
A classic with Real Madrid is ahead of FCB this coming weekend. The Catalan club can not afford to fail again, which makes Real Madrid vs Barcelona match prediction even more exciting for the worldwide audience.
The FC Barcelona head coach has already made his first decisions. He cancelled the team’s days off that the players were supposed to receive on Friday. Instead, they will train at Camp Nou.
The Catalans are also not favoured by the schedule of the Champions League Group. The Blaugrana boys will take on Bayern in the next round, and Inter will play at home against Viktoria. In addition, at the start of their match, they may already have no chance to go further.
The Italians will kick off their encounter at 6:45 p.m. They will seal their promotion and condemn Barcelona to the Europa League competition if they win.
Xavi and FC Barcelona puts Pressure on Gerard Pique
Now, it remains to be seen who will pay for the failures in the cups. All indications are that Gerard Pique will be the victim. His presence in the starting line-up for the match against Real Madrid is practically out of the question. Pique will be the first victim, but we think he will not be the last.
Barcelona players will need to step it up, if they want to stick with the team and secure victories. But as it stands now, the future is uncertain.
The next group C meetings will take place on Wednesday, 26 October. So get ready for the upcoming game and bet wisely on betfinal.com – the best betting site in the world.
